On the 2nd February, the Institution for Islamic Studies and Intercultural Cooperation (IFIS&IZ) and the House of Culture for European Muslims (KUDEM) hosted the photography exhibition titled \u201cIslamic Life in Europe \u2013 People and Architecture\u201d.<\/p>

This impressive photo gallery from the Danish photographer Eckhard Ahmed Krausen, pictures architectural, social and cultural perspectives from Muslims in Europe. The theologian, Ms. Prof. Beinhauer-K\u00f6hler, from the University of Marburg gives a scientific analysis with her lecture titled \u201cMosques in Germany \u2013 Visual Presence and Perspectives\u201d.<\/p>

Dr. H\u00fcseyin Ilker Cinar (head of IFIZ&IZ) opened the event commenting: \u201cWith this exhibition here today we want to bring together two essential elements for communal coexistence: culture and science.\u201d For Prof. Cinar these elements are indispensable for exchange and progress of communal life. The director of KUDEM, shared the same sentiment: \u201cIn order to achieve this goal our approach involves making use of the universal language of art, aesthetics and science. We are convinced these human crafts through the art of thinking are not meant to be an end in themselves, but should be used as tools, creating new possibilities so as to connect people and bring them closer together therefore enhancing communication.\u201d<\/p>

For the city and mayor of Mannheim, Dr. Peter Kurz, this exhibition is very special. He said: \u201cThese photos are about something real and Mannheim is just the right place for such an exhibition. Here we always had an intense communication between different cultures and it is our common objective to develop a city community lead by the skills of empathy.\u201d The exhibition is a great meeting point to get to know each other even more.<\/p>

For the Turkish consul in Karlsruhe, Serhat Aksen, this event demonstrates \u201can end of the unnecessary debate about whether Islam belongs in Germany. It is simply a reality and the diversity that comes with it, is an enrichment for everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>

KUDEM ad\u0131na misafirlere hitab eden Ba\u015fkan ise, \u201cToplumun bir par\u00e7as\u0131 olarak amac\u0131m\u0131z, farkl\u0131 k\u00fclt\u00fcr ve medeniyetlere mensup insanlar aras\u0131nda k\u00f6pr\u00fcler in\u015fa etmektir. Bu hedefimize ula\u015fmak \u00fczere benimsedi\u011fimiz y\u00f6ntem, insanl\u0131\u011f\u0131n ortak ve evrensel dili olan sanattan, estetikten, ilim ve irfandan \u00e2z\u00e2m\u00ee \u00f6l\u00e7\u00fcde istifade etmektir\u201d<\/em>dedi.<\/p>

Mannheim B\u00fcy\u00fck\u015fehir Belediye Ba\u015fkan\u0131 Dr.\u00a0Peter Kurz ise, Mannheim Belediyesi olarak en ba\u015ftan beri k\u00fclt\u00fcrler aras\u0131nda g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fc bir diyalog ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirdiklerini ve ortak gayenin empati temeli \u00fczerinde geli\u015fen bir \u015fehir toplumunu olu\u015fturmak oldu\u011funu kaydetti. KUDEM\u2019de a\u00e7\u0131lan bu serginin hakikat\u0131 yans\u0131tt\u0131\u011f\u0131n\u0131 dile getiren Dr. Kurz, toplumlar\u0131n birbirlerini daha iyi tan\u0131y\u0131p anlayabilmesi i\u00e7in bu serginin m\u00fckemmel bir vesile oldu\u011funu ifade ederek, KUDEM ve \u0130F\u0130S&\u0130Z ile yapt\u0131klar\u0131 i\u015fbirli\u011fini daha da geli\u015ftireceklerini duyurdu.<\/p>

Karlsruhe Ba\u015fkonsolosu Serhat Aksen ise, \u201cBu sergi, \u0130slamiyet\u2019in Almanya\u2019n\u0131n bir par\u00e7as\u0131 olup olmad\u0131\u011f\u0131na dair yap\u0131lan gereksiz tart\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n sonudur. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDr. Ahmet Bedir, dean of the faculty for theology at Bozok University in Yozgat (Turkey), emphasized the importance of the exchange of ideas an added: \u201cthat only through an open and receptive attitude the relationship between different religions and cultures can work effectively.\u201d\r\n\r\nThe speakers as well as the guests were also impressed with the specialized Islamic library of the IFIS&IS. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIt was back in December 2013 that IFIS&IZ announced its Islamic speciaized library, intending to obtain an amount of 100,000 literary works. It has already reached the first quarter of its goal with 25,000 books. The primal phases of creating that library Prof. Cinar goes on to explain: \u201cThrough numerous travels from Cairo, Beirut to Istanbul a team of scientists that included colleagues from each of the mentioned countries- including myself made it to collect and bring books to Mannheim, some of which were difficult to find.\u201d\r\nIn regards to motivation and goals of the IFIS&IZ Prof. Cinar said: \u201cThe objective of our work is to create good conditions for young academics and thus support them within their studies.
