On 31st May 2015, the Culture House of European Muslims (KUDEM) hosted for second time an exclusive concert touching soul and mind. The renowned singer and artist Mustafa Doğan Dikmen delighted together with the KUDEM choir the sold-out concert-hall with a fascinating performance. Mr. Dikmen is considered as one of the most important representative of the Turkish-classic and Sufi-music in the world. Together with the KUDEM choir Mr. Dikmen presented selected songs and doxologies.
The KUDEM choir consists of young members of KUDEM. Since the beginning of this year the choir has prepared comprehensively for the concert. The choir members haven been thought in bi-weekly courses in the techniques and subtleties of the Sufi-music by Mr. Dikmen, who is lecturer at the state conservatory for Turkish-classic music at the Technical University of Istanbul (ITÜ) and solo singer and program designer at the state radio channel TRT Istanbul. Prof. Çınar congratulated Mr. Dikmen and the KUDEM choir for their magnificent work and especially Mr. Dikmen for his engagement and contribution during the last months.
The concert attracted music enthusiasts from all over Germany and aroused great interest. All tickets have been sold-out already in the pre-sale stage. Among the guests there were representatives from business, science, politics and culture, such as the city councilor of the city of Mannheim Ms. Prof. Dr. Heidrun Kämper (SPD). In her speech Mrs. Prof. Kämper expressed her appreciation for the invitation to the concert. She was impressed about the concert and said: “The name of KUDEM is self expressing – a cultural place which is enriching the cultural life in Mannheim, in fact on the highest level. KUDEM considers itself as a mediator of arts and represents the cultural and artistic aspects of Islam, which is often being overlooked. […] Science, education, culture and arts are the four mainstays of KUDEM and central focus areas and attributes of the city of Mannheim, where we believe having KUDEM in the right place. […] KUDEM and its engagement are very important for an international metropol such as Mannheim.”
In this sense, KUDEM represents a mystic interpretation of Islam. Through the universal language of arts, culture and science KUDEM wants to contribute to overcome frontiers and to highlight commonalities. The scientific work is done by the IFIS&IZ, Institute for Islamic Studies and Intercultural Cooperation. The overall project of KUDEM and IFIS&IZ is advised and accompanied by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin İlker Çınar (IFIS&IZ, Chairholder for Qu’ran exegesis at the University of Osnabrück).
