Kudem e.V.

KUDEM and IFIS&IZ proudly announce: The largest Islamic library within Europe in Mannheim expands by further 10,000 volumes

We are pleased to announce that the collection of the scientific Islamic library has been expanded by further 10,000 volumes with primarily Turkish scientific literature reaching now a total of 35,000 volumes. With this expansion almost all available and scientific relevant literature about Islamic theology in Turkish language has been included to our scientific Islamic library. All relevant publishers have been contact and books which are not available on the market have been searched and purchased in some cases on the antiques market. Due to this important milestone IFIS&IZ and KUDEM conveys its appreciation and thanks to the supporters for this magnificent project. Special thank goes to the members of IFIS&IZ and KUDEM as well as to the institutions and publishers for their contributions and support. May Allah, the Beneficent and Merciful, may be pleased with them.

Since more than 7 years the Institute of Islamic Studies and Intercultural Cooperation (IFIS&IZ) jointly develops the largest scientific Islamic library in Europe with the Culture House of European Muslims (KUDEM). The multi-lingual scientific library consists of diverse disciplines of Islamic theology with a target stock of 100,000 volumes at its final stage.

The overall project has been drawn and initiated by honorable Prof. Dr. Hüseyin İlker Çınar (Founding Director of IFIS&IZ, Mannheim / Chair of Tafsir (exegesis), University of Osnabrück). Lead by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin İlker Çınar a commission consisting of professors and academics from the relevant specialist disciplines is engaged to further develop the collection of the scientific Islamic library.

In the next step the books will be catalogued and integrated into the library database. At the same time the book lists for the new volumes are being developed by the expert commission. The focus for the new lists is being set primarily on Arabic (approx. 15,000) and German (3,000) scientific literature to reach an intermediate stock of 50,000 volumes in the near future.

The reference library with its exclusive collection in six languages (English, German, French, Arabic, Turkish, and Persian) will be soon in service for scholars, students, and scientists to support their studies and academic research.

Our scientific library aims to include all reputable scientific books on Islamic theology and to add books in the Western languages (English, German, and French) to our inventory to reach the final total of 100,000 books. By exceeding the 100,000 scientific books and it’s rich Eastern sources of scientific books on Islamic theology our scientific library will be considered as one of the leading centers in the world.

The expansion of the Islamic-library we ask you for your support in order to accelerate the realization of this important project for science and society. Your support can be either by financial donation or by donating relevant literature. We would be delighted to win you as a sponsor for this unique project in Europe. Nevertheless, we are committed and fully engaged to continue our projects and path.
